daily videos to help you will be available to view each day next week when we fast.
To kick off the year we're devoting ourselves to prayer and fasting with a specific focus each day to help guide our prayers. Then at the end of the week we're feasting together (you can sign up to join us at our free meal here)
Between January 8-12 why not set aside a period of 24hrs (or longer) and go without food, and instead of eating devote what would have been your mealtimes to prayer.
Fasting has long been a vital practise for followers of the Way of Jesus and in our church discipleship booklet the section on fasting contains the following introduction to fasting:
Christian author John Mark Comer writes the following:
"When you begin fasting, it’s common to feel sad, even anxious, or just plain hangry... it takes a while to wean your soul off its addiction to the Western gods of pleasure, instant gratification, and sensory appetites. The first thing it normally does is reveal where you are still in bondage."
Next week as we fast we're focusing our prayers for specific days along the following lines:
MONDAY: NHS & Maternity Care.
Michelle’s prayer pointers for the day will be available on Sunday or on this blog next week.
TUESDAY: Young people & sexual purity
Jez's prayer pointers for the day will be available on Sunday or on this blog next week.
WEDNESDAY: Mission – local
Debora’s prayer pointers for the day will be available on Sunday or on this blog next week.
THURSDAY: Mission – beyond
